Susanne Harris Carnell

For the past 8 years, Susan has focused on representing Lorenger & Carnell clients through all manners of employment related issues and disputes, in roughly equal split between preventative counseling and management-side litigation. Before co-founding Lorenger & Carnell PLC, Susan was a partner in the Labor & Employment Group of Hogan & Hartson, where she had practiced since May 2001. Earlier in her career, Susan represented companies in employment and other civil litigation with Covington & Burling in Washington, D.C.

Raised in Norfolk, Susan graduated from the University of Virginia and then the University of Virginia School of Law, where she was a member of the Virginia Law Review and the Order of the Coif. Between law school and entering private practice, Susan clerked for then-Chief Judge J. Frederick Motz, United States District Court for the District of Maryland in Baltimore.

Susan, her husband Bill and their two children reside in Alexandria, Virginia.

Michael J. Lorenger

During the past twenty years, Mike has represented employers in court and before federal and state agencies in more than twenty-five states, before at least four U.S. courts of appeal, and in several state supreme courts. Before co-founding Lorenger & Carnell, Mike was a partner in the Labor & Employment Group of the global law firm Hogan & Hartson (now HoganLovells).

Mike graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Iowa in 1991 where he majored in journalism. In 1995, he received his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law, where he served on the editorial and managing boards of the Virginia Law Review.

Mike, his wife Carrie and their three children reside in Alexandria, Virginia.

Christine Burke

Christine Burke joined Lorenger & Carnell PLC in 2015 after more than 10 years with the Labor & Employment Group of Hogan Lovells (and its predecessor, Hogan & Hartson), initially as an associate and later as Counsel. Christine has extensive experience representing employers in litigation before federal and state courts and administrative agencies, and in arbitration. She also provides counseling to employers on topics ranging from day-to-day workforce management to complex legal requirements, and has significant experience in traditional labor law, advising employers facing unionization and representing clients in collective bargaining negotiations.

Christine received her B.A. from Yale University, and later graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law, where she was a member of the editorial board of the Virginia Law Review. Between law school and entering private practice, Christine clerked for the Honorable J. Frederick Motz, United States District Court for the District of Maryland in Baltimore.

Christine, her husband Chris, and their two children reside in Arlington, Virginia.
